Google to make Pixel phones in India: Rick Osterloh

Google’s smartphones are being ‘Made in India’. Search giant Google will manufacture Pixel series smartphones in India. Google’s senior vice president for devices and services, Rick Osterlohannounced this today (October 19) at the company’s annual Google for India event in New Delhi. He made this announcement in the presence of Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
Osterloh said the company will partner with international contract manufacturers to make phones in India. “We will start manufacturing google pixel series smartphones in India,” Osterloh said at the event. However, he did not disclose the names of the contract manufacturers.

India is a priority market for Pixel

The move by the company responsible for Android, the most-used mobile operating system in the world, adds to a series of successes by the Indian government in luring international device makers to manufacture locally.
Over the past few years, device makers Apple and Samsung have started manufacturing handsets in India and vendors of Chinese phone companies have set up partnerships with local assemblers.
