Air Canada and American Airlines flights have close call in Florida

US officials are investigating a close call involving Air Canada and American Airlines flights at a Florida airport.

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, on February 16, air traffic controllers at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport in Florida cleared an Air Canada Rouge flight for takeoff after allowing an American Airlines crew to land on the same runway. on

“After the controller informed the American flight crew that Air Canada was departing, the American flight crew aborted the landing,” the FAA said in a statement to “The FAA estimates that the aircraft was approximately 3,100 feet (945 meters) away when the American aircraft took off.”

Both the FAA and the US National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the incident, which may have occurred around 8pm ET. There are no reports of casualties.

Air Canada and Transport Canada officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Air Canada Rouge flight was departing from Toronto, while the American Airlines flight was arriving from Charlotte, NC.
