Kamloops news: 17 wild horses shot dead, RCMP investigating

KAMLOOPS, B.C.

Authorities in British Columbia are investigating after 17 wild horses were shot in what the Mounties are calling a “disheartening act.”

RCMP said in a news release that Tk’emlups Rural RCMP received a report Friday of several dead horses found about 65 kilometers west of Kamloops, B.C. Near Valhachin.

Police say the CCP’s Forensic Identification Unit, along with a veterinarian and a livestock investigator, carefully examined the scene.

They said the animals appeared to be from a herd of wild horses that frequent the area.

RCMP say a motive has not yet been established and the investigation is ongoing.

They say the horses are culturally significant to the local Skeetchestn Band and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
